Local Schools Guide for the Castle Hills Community

If you are a parent considering moving into a new-build home in the Castle Hills neighborhood, you are probably wondering which schools your children would attend.

Castle Hills Elementary
Castle Hills Elementary is located right in the neighborhood, making the commute to school easy for families. This school serves students from kindergarten through fifth grade.

Castle Hills Elementary is ranked the #1 in Best Public Elementary Schools in Denton County by Niche.com and the #118 (out of 4,532) Best Public Elementary School in Texas (Niche.com). Additionally, the school offers a student to teacher ratio of 17:1.

Castle Hills Elementary students perform well above the state average on state tests:

  • Reading 84% (state average: 44%)
  • Math 91% (state average: 47%)
  • Writing 66% (state average: 32%)
  • Science 78% (state average: 41%)

These numbers show that most students are performing at or above their grade level—a promising sign for parents. Additionally, students at Castle Hills Elementary are shown to make more academic progress year-to-year compared to similar students in the state of Texas.

The school offers its students a gifted program featuring classes in art, music and library enrichment. Students also enjoy access to a state-of-the-art computer lab.

Killian Middle School
Middle school-aged Castle Hills by Britton Homes residents attend Killian Middle School. This school opened in 2007 and serves students in sixth through eighth grade.

This campus places an emphasis on technology. Not only does every classroom come equipped with a SmartBoard™ and surround sound, the school also boasts two computer labs, a technology education lab and a home economics lab. Killian Middle School also has two gyms and offers students extracurricular activities like student council, yearbook, National Junior Honor Society and cheerleading.

Killian offers students many fine art opportunities including art, band, choir, orchestra and theatre. The school also provides a Virtual Learning Academy for students to take online classes such as a world language course, advanced math or high school art. Athletics include basketball, cross country, track, volleyball, football and soccer.

Academically, Killian Middle School offers the LEAP gifted program and pre-advanced placement classes. Students can also enroll in advanced STEM courses.

Students at Killian Middle School perform far better than the state average on state testing:

  • Math 61% (state average: 41%)
  • Science 66% (state average: 46%)
  • Social Studies 55% (state average: 31%)
  • Writing 63% (state average: 37%)
  • Algebra I 100% (state average: 50%)

Killian’s diverse student body also exhibits more year-over-year academic improvement compared to the state average.

Hebron High School
Hebron High School serves ninth- through 12th-grade students. The school’s population performs far better than the state average in key measurements of college and career readiness, earning Hebron a 2019 College Success Award by GreatSchools.org.

  • Four-year graduation rate is 98% (state average: 90%)
  • Average SAT score is 1174 (state average: 1019)
  • Average ACT score is 25 (state average: 20)

Additionally, 74% of students participate in the SAT.

Compared to state averages, Hebron High School students are also much more likely to participate in AP courses (44% versus the state average of 22%) and pass AP exams (85% compared to the state average of 50%). Additionally, the number of advanced courses taken per student at Hebron High School is much higher than the state mean.
